INTRODUCTION
Ducati Corse was created with the main aim of uniting all the sporting activities of Ducati under one roof, thus guaranteeing a flexible and modern organisation, which is able to make the best use of advanced technologies. Ducati Corse is directed by Claudio Domenicali and is based inside the Borgo Panigale factory. Today, more than one hundred people work in Ducati Corse (almost 10% of the Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. workforce), split amongst the following departments:
  • Technical
  • Sporting
  • Commercial Activities
  • Marketing/Communication

TECHNICAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
This area is directed by Filippo Preziosi and is divided into two working teams, responsible for the design and development of the motorcycles that compete in the MotoGP and Superbike championships.

SPORTING ACTIVITIES
This area directly regards the factory teams that take part in the MotoGP and Superbike championships and is strongly results-orientated. The SBK and MotoGP teams are organized as follows:
  • A Project Manager
  • A Technical Director, who is in charge of a track engineer, an electronics engineer and four mechanics for each rider

COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES
Ducati Corse provides private teams with highly competitive bikes. These are actually produced with a similar technical specification to the factory bikes. Besides the Superbikes and spare parts, Ducati Corse provides consultancy services and technical assistance that enable racing customers to take part in the World Superbike Championship and in national Superbike championships. From 2004 Ducati Corse also follows a satellite team in MotoGP, supplying bikes and technical support together with a dedicated engineer.

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION
A further goal is to increase and manage the Ducati brand image in racing and to demonstrate our ability to evaluate our partners’ investments by creating communication opportunities. To accomplish this goal we have set up a marketing department dedicated to competition, through which we support our partners in all communication activities linked to the partnership. We have also created our own official merchandising line to support our partners with co-branding and co-marketing activities

Volgens Carlo Pernat, de manager van Loris Capirossi, is de bevestiging van de overeenkomst tussen Nicky Hayden en Ducati alleen nog maar een kwestie van tijd en zou de overeenkomst al op papier staan.

Carlo Pernat geldt in het MotoGP paddock als een sluwe vos die het vaak bij het juiste eind heeft, voor de Manager van onder andere Loris Capirossi, Alex De Angelis en Andrea Dovizioso is het dan ook duidelijk dat Nicky Hayden in 2009 van Honda naar Ducati gaat.
"Voor Nicky is het in mijn ogen de hoogste tijd voor een overstap, hij moest echt eens gaan kijken naar andere mogelijkheden," aldus Pernat, die Capirossi al begeleidt sinds hij begin jaren negentig in de 125cc reed, "Naast het Ducati aanbod denk ik dat hij nog andere opties heeft, maar mijn gevoel zegt dat de overeenkomt met de Italianen al zo goed als rond is. Als vervanger van Hayden wil Honda heel graag Dovizioso contracteren."

Ook voor zijn protegé Loris Capirossi ziet het er volgens Pernat goed uit.

"Voor Loris is 2009 voor 99% rond, de verlenging van zijn contract zal denk ik na de zomerstop in Brno bekend worden gemaakt, denkt Pernat. "Ik ga er vanuit dat Vermeulen zijn teamgenoot zal blijven."

Volgens Pernat heeft Ben Spies, de protegé Kevin Schwantz, zichzelf buitenspel gezet door te hoge salaris eisen te stellen bij Suzuki, ook Dovizioso zou voor Suzuki een optie zijn geweest. 250cc Aprilia fabrieksrijder Alvaro Bautista zou alleen in beeld komen als Suzuki er toch nog voor kiest om in 2009 een derde GSV-R in te gaan zetten via een klantenteam.

en die gaat echt niet meer in de motogp rijden, zoals eerder al gemeld heeft hij gezegd Quote "ik heb met de 990 de laatste race gewonnen in het zelfde jaar dat ik kampioen in de sbk werd, dit kan nooit meer overtroffen worden."

Ik denk niet dat hayden met de TC overweg kan, dus weer een verloren jaar voor een verloren rijder. Ze hadden beter vol voor dovi kunnen gaan.

Maar de marketing afdeling ziet liever een amerikaan vanwege de verkopen..... volgens mij kunnen ze dan beter een amerikaan op een 1098 zetten.

Ik ben ook niet zo'n fan van Hayden, maar ben eigenlijk wel benieuwd wat ie kan met de desmo.
Melandri was op papier ook een hele goede keuze, maar is in de praktijk een flinke tegenvaller.
Ik wil het wel eens zie wat ie kan.
 
Denk dat het Biaggi word zeker gezien de cryptische omschrijving op zijn website:

Lijkt me ook wel redelijk, denk dat shakey dan op de sterilgarda komt volgend jaar. Hoop het wel voor Max maarja dan moet hij zich ook bewijzen volgend jaar.
 
Forza Max! 8-) Laat Shane Byrne eerst maar is een jaar debuteren op de Sterilgarda Ducati, om dan in 2010 de plek van Fabrizio in te nemen. ;)
 
Byrne-Biaggi lijkt me wel een leuke combinatie voor 2009.
Of het een succesvolle gaat worden moet nog blijken. Ik denk dat het vertrek van #21 zwaar gaat vallen.
 
Voormalig MotoGP-rijder Sete Gibernau heeft deze week weer eens voor het team van Ducati getest, op het circuit van Mugello. De 35-jarige Spanjaard, die getipt wordt als vervanger van de tegenvallende Marco Melandri, reed twee dagen. Dat was een dag minder dan gepland, door een crash aan het einde van de tweede testdag.

Het is alweer de derde keer dat Gibernau plaatsneemt op een Ducati. Deze nieuwe test zal de geruchten dat hij later dit seizoen de plek van Melandri zal innemen, alleen maar doen toenemen. Teambaas Livio Suppo gaf echter onlangs nog te kennen dat Melandri wel de race in Tsjechië, die op 17 augustus plaatsheeft, zal rijden.

Het was woensdag zeer warm in Mugello, maar desondanks wist Gibernau goede tijden te rijden. Op kwalificatiebanden kwam hij tot een beste tijd van 1.48.9. Aan het einde van de dag kende Gibernau een crash, maar deze bleef zonder gevolgen. Toch werd er besloten dat hij niet meer in actie zal komen voor een derde dag.

"Het was geweldig om weer eens met kwalificatiebanden te rijden, na bijna twee jaar", vertelde een grijnzende Gibernau na afloop. "Maar het belangrijkste was dat het gevoel op de motor en de racesnelheid vrijwel meteen weer goed waren. Ondanks de crash was het een zeer positieve test. Ik wil Ducati bedanken voor deze kans. We zullen nu gaan bespreken of deze samenwerking een vervolg krijgt."

Vittoriano Guareschi en Niccolo Canepa komen donderdag wel in actie.

Dat is een knetter goede tijd 1.48.9 met slechts 2 dagen testen.
Ik heb ff de qualificatie tijden op Mugello erbij gehaald van de afgelopen race in mei ter vergelijking.

Rossi was snelst met 1.48.1
Stoner deed het in 1.48.3
En Lorenzo op de 7e plek reed 1.48.9 net als Gibernau.

Zou wel eens willen weten welke tijden hij met wedstrijdbanden in wedstrijd simulatie kan neerzetten.
 
De marktwaarde van Marco Melandri daalt wel heel erg snel op deze manier. Ik hoop dat hij volgend jaar weer op een Honda zal zitten, want hij wordt nu dmv zulke testen wel heel snel heel erg 'ingemaakt' door Gibernau. Ik vind het een knappe tijd van Sete Gibernau, en ben benieuwd wat hij volgend jaar eventueel kan doen. *D

Zou het Ducati fabrieksteam dan toch een 3e machine in gaan zetten, met Stoner, Gibernau en Hayden als rijders?! *O*
 
The third and final day of testing before a belated summer break for Ducati test riders Vittoriano Guareschi and Niccolo Canepa concluded at Mugello on Thursday.

While Guareschi continued working on the development of next year's GP9, Canapa completed two long runs in the hot conditions and recorded a best time of 1min 51.2secs.

"We are satisfied with the job we were able to do in these days," said Filippo Preziosi. "The development of the GP9 proceeds well and we got some positive feedback from the bike despite the hot and difficult conditions. A big thank goes to the Ducati technicians for the great job they made during the last months.

"A special thank also to the guys of the Official MotoGP Team that sacrificed three days of holiday in order to allow us to run the tests not only with Vitto but with Niccolo and Sete also."

Gibernau, back in test action for the third time after retiring from MotoGP almost two years ago, finished testing after day two.

The former world championship runner-up had lapped consistently around the 1min 50.5secs mark with race tyres and set a best time of 1min 48.9secs with qualifying tyres, but his future intentions remain unclear with Ducati indicting that Marco Melandri will keep his race seat for Brno.

The fastest race lap during June's Italian Grand Prix was a 1min 50.003secs by Ducati's reigning world champion Casey Stoner. Pole position was a 1min 48.130 secs by eventual race winner Valentino Rossi.
Canepa will take part in the Brno post-race test with the Bridgestone Test Team, but it is not yet known if Gibernau will also be present for a test that will allow accurate comparisons with lap times set during the Czech Republic Grand Prix.
