Decided I'd finally post the little bit of tweaking I've done to my R1 and give some of the back story.

I totaled my 2014 R6 12.01.2015, a little over 6 months after buying it.

While at the shop discussing the damages I noticed their last two 2014 R1's were on clearance at pretty good prices. After a night to think about it I put a deposit on one the next morning and I brought it home about a week later on 04.02.2015.

IMG_0110.JPG

I pulled the side reflectors and dealer plate off as well as installed the Woodcraft swing arm slider spools and Antigravity battery from the R6 the day I brought it home. I also flipped the shift linkage for GP style shifting since I prefer this.

Here's what's been done so far as well as what's in the plans. This list will be updated as parts get added/changed.

Totally stock a few minutes after bringing it home from the dealership 04.02.2015

took me a few minutes to vieuw everything.
your neighbour sells woodcraft ? ;)

very nice, lots of mods for just 1 bike :P

never heard of woodcraft, they make nice tuning parts :)
how did you find the dutch motor forum page?

Thank you all for the kind words.

Woodcraft makes quality parts at affordable prices and their crash protection parts are highly recommended in the US. Since I had the Woodcraft frame sliders and liked the design I stuck with them for all of the protection parts. Even their stands aren't that expensive at $260 USD for the set and they're rock solid. The frame slider bases and pucks are around $65 shipped and the pucks are replaceable individually in the event of a crash. The other thing I like is the frame sliders are low profile. If they stick out too much they can snag and flip the bike doing a lot more damage.

Some of my parts are second hand that I picked up at really good prices. The Leo Vince exhaust, RoadLok disc lock, Samco hoses/clamps, and Woodcraft case covers are some of the parts I've bought used, most around half price or less.

As for finding the forum, since my wife and I are considering moving to The Netherlands in the next couple years I decided to search for Dutch motorcycle forums to try to understand the culture and hopefully make new friends while discussing something in common (maybe even learn a little Dutch). We'll probably be in The Netherlands next spring/summer looking at the different areas and getting a better feel for where we would like to move to. We were there this past November and it was one of the two countries we both said we were interested in moving to.

Very nice bike :}

Can't say I understand your motivation to move here but it seems our little country is a lot more interesting then we realize or something :P

I am actually thinking about moving to the US, up until now only by entering the greencard lottery but perhaps (if I won't 'win' the lottery in the next couple of years) i'll make more serious work of it :)

It's all about the marijuana and prostitutes. Just kidding ;)

My wife is from Europe, we've been discussing moving there for a little while now but, we needed to decide where to move and the logistics of it as well as look into the job market and housing. As for why The Netherlands, my wife wants to be near the sea and she likes modern architecture and design. For me it's more about the people and culture.

Don't rush over here, the job market is still in the trash and Obama has set the country back about 50 years. The healthcare system is a bad joke and the American system is all about putting you deep into debt. There's also a huge lack of personal responsibility here. Everything is somebody else's fault and nobody owns their actions. Sad to see what this country has become. But that's my personal view on things here.

What state/area would you try to move to?

Lol, sounds great :')

I guess we/I only see the upsides of America; huge differences in nature, nicer weather, cheaper bikes (:P) and so forth..
Certainly good to hear the other side of the story from someone who lives there.
I'm not yet fixating on location because it's not in a really serious state at the moment, should I be so fortunate to 'win' the greencard lottery, I'll still have 1 to 1,5 years to think about where i'll be going.

But at the moment I'd say the westcoast (ofcourse) although New York and surrounding also appeal to me, and so does Texas, Arizona... aargh _O-

Whenever you're in the country we should meet up for a ride, maybe chat a little back and forth about pro's and cons :)

I can see what you're saying about America and your reasons are valid. Have you visited here much? America has become a great place to visit and such, but living here is getting harder and harder.

Definitely up for meeting and having a good discussion and going for a ride. Maybe slip into Germany to see what the bike can really do on the Autobahn.

The south of the netherlands is the most beautifull of course :p 2 2hour drive to the sea, 15 min to the firdt german autobahn and close to a nature park with hills in germany: naturpark eifel

But thats my opinion :p

We're tentatively looking around Eindhoven, have to work so need to be near an area with jobs. Pros or cons to this area?

Eindhoven is ok, good jobs in tech sector around here. Its definitely not the prettiest city, but its rather cheap and traffic is not too bad. I for instance prefer Den Bosch over Eindhoven; older city centre and more lively. There are also some nice villages close to Eindhoven that might be interesting to you.

The most high paying jobs, you'll find in Utrecht/Amsterdam area, but its more expensive for living and way worse for traffic.

feel free to pm me for more info

Second hand bikes are actually more expensive in California. I lived in Cali for 6 months, its definitely beautiful and a lot of fun, but it also has in downsides: expensive, too large income differences, crazy medical system and superficial people etc. But its damn good for surfing, riding, partying, traveling, nature etc etc.

@BladeOfFury you pretty much nailed it. Especially about the superficial people, also a lot of self absorbed people. Sound like you were in or near LA.

However, second hand bikes can be found at good prices, just have to go to the right places. There are even some deals on new bikes which are pretty good as well. My R1 was $9970 plus tax/license/destination fees ($12,000 total). Cost less than my R6 did.

Thanks for the info, I'm trying to figure out what sort of jobs I can go after in NL, not sure where the best places to look for jobs are. I'll definitely be sending you a PM in the near future.
