Heb onderstaand verhaal op ons WorldWidthWeb gevonden.
I got lucky today. Got a media invitation to go see the Foggy Petronas Racing team test at Phillip Island. So on the bike and off I went.
Got to hang out in the pits with the team while they worked on the bikes. Troy Corser is a great guy. He\'s obviously pleased to be back racing again. Last year was so difficult without being able to race. He attended two of the meetings, but couldn\'t bear to watch the rest of the races since he wasn\'t able to compete. He said that the Aprilia could have won against the Ducati and the Honda if they\'d had Michelin tyres. A condition of signing with Foggy Petronas was that they use Michelins.
Took lots of pics, right up the point where they started to strip the bike down. I got thrown out just as they were about to drop the engine from Corser\'s No. 2 bike. Hehehe. I offered to delete the photos, but they said it was OK. In the end they decided that it was just better to let their mechanics work without the flash going off.
The homologation bikes are going to be collectors items. They\'ve designed the bike to be attractive as well as race competitive. The exhaust, for instance, is tucked right up under the rear cowl and loops around in there to get the length they need.
One thing that isn\'t allowed to be reported (so don\'t tell anyone!) is that the exhaust lights up like a frame thrower on deceleration. Their official photographer got a great photo of that, but they won\'t let it out. They have to fix that before the first race.
The bike is a bit down on power. Needs lots more top end. There will be engine updates before the first race.
Corser is really happy with the handling and the clutch. Wants more power and needs the bike to stop doing sudden wheelies! They aren\'t smooth and controllable. The engine breaks without warning too. Didn\'t break today though except that his No. 1 bike was spewing water into the overflow bottle. By now they will have stripped the engine to find out why. Shame I couldn\'t get a photo of that.
Corser\'s mechanics both got nabbed by the Oz Quarantine sniffer dog on the way in. They dubbed him the \"eager beagle\". He can smell apples! Fuck our dogs are clever. Hehehehe. The team thought it a big joke, but Oz officials are serious about that stuff.
I\'m going back down on Thursday afternoon to see how the test ends up.
