Front brakes: brake lever is moving back and forth and the whole bike is shaking back and forth when braking

Hi all,

I have a Honda CB00F 2005. It has 47 000km and I bought it a few months ago at 40 000km. As far as I know it had a big service before I bought it, including new brake pads, chain etc.
I've been doing most maintenance myself including chain maintainance and I also changed the brake fluid a few months ago. In the beginning it was fine but now more and more the whole bike is shaking and it does not feel like strong breaking when I use the front brakes. It felt spongy, so last night I bled the brakes and got rid of the air in the system. That made the breaking quality better but now you can feel it much clearer that the break lever is moving back and forth when I'm breaking and the whole bike is shaking too.
Anyone has an idea what that could be? And which steps I should check?
I've been using S100 Totalreiniger to clean the bike, could there be a correlation?

Thanks for the help!

First of all, driving with air in your brake system is a bad idea. Next time you service the brakes, make sure you bleed them correctly before driving. This will make you live longer.

Conerning the shaking and moving of the bike under braking could be due to a faulty (warped) disk or a caliper problem. You kan check the disc by lifting the front wheel of the ground and rotating the wheel like @sammie already mentioned.

Maybe the brake calipers are the problem and need a revision. Don’t know how good your Dutch reading is but we have a howto about this on the forum

also if you want to do work yourself, get an owners manual for the bike. This will help you perform the maintenance.

And double check that you bled the system properly.

Thanks for the answer.
I did triple check if I bled the system without trapped air when I did the brake fluid change a few months ago but still I found air in there yesterday. Might be doing something wrong

I'll do the checks that you recommended. Might also just take it to a garage, as I'd rather be safe on the streets

Is the bike equipped with ABS?

You can ask here if somebody wants to help you:

I will be sure to bleed the brakes correctly before driving.... But will this make me live longer? Can I still drink a bottle of whiskey every day, skip sporting, still have my daily cigarettes, fast food, etcetera etcetera and live longer? :?

If things don't work out with @Super Blackbird then you could try Moto-Dick on the Da Costakade 95, 1053 WK Amsterdam, @Rody-rc30 is a very skilled mechanic, and he has a cute dog :+
Cute dog is always a great plus :D
Thanks for the tip. Does such a check usually cost? Just to get an idea. I didn’t have a need yet to bring my babe to a garage, so no idea what the etiquette is;)

Sometimes the rings that keep the floating disc to the hub are corroded and dirty, there is a way to clean them with a bolt, nut and a battery equipped drilling machine... Better go to @Super Blackbird because the diagnosis is free and not less important: It keeps him away from the Forum ;)
