Aah ja, Bolivia's Road of Death... Die weg van La Paz naar Coroico. Daar gaat toch gemiddeld om de dag een vrachtwagen de diepte in om nooit meer terug gevonden te worden?

At this junction the infamous Death Road starts winding down to Coroico. El Camino de la Muerte was built in the 1930s by Paraguayan prisoners of war. For many years the road was the only connection between Coroico and La Paz.

From La Paz the Road ascends to the La Cumbre Pass (4.640m), which is the highest point of the route.
From there it's a 50km long 'downhill madness' to the villages Yolosa and Coroico, some 3.500m below. In 1995, the Inter American Development Bank christened this route the most dangerous road in the world. Today there are several tour operators in La Paz, which offer Mountainbike Downhills on the Death Road. Because of the splendid nature, the extreme contrast between the high altitude climate and freezing temperatures at La Cumbre, and the tropical climate in Coroico this is definitely a 'Once in a lifetime adventure'.
