Reigning World Superbike champion James Toseland is reported to be in discussions with Team Suzuki about a ride in the 2006 MotoGP World Championship.
Britain's Motorcycle News states that the current Xerox Ducati rider, who has endured a disappointing 2005 to date with just one race win, is desperate to break into the premier GP class - especially since former factory Ducati riders Troy Bayliss and Ruben Xaus are rumoured to be fighting for his current SBK seat.
"The one thing I've got on my side is age. I've just got to get into MotoGP and have a couple of development years like I did from 2001-2003 in WSB. There is no reason why, with a good team, we can't do what Nicky Hayden is doing," claimed the 24-year-old.
Team Suzuki is keen to keep hold of John Hopkins for next season and beyond - although the highly rated Anglo-American has yet to sign - while Kenny Roberts's future remains undecided.
Toseland knows that Paul Denning's team are his best chance of a MotoGP break, and believes that the GSV-R would be good enough for him to show the GP world what he can do.
"I'm about 80% of the rider I can be - I believe that racing at the next level could bring out the next 20% - and who knows what could happen from there?" he said.
"Suzuki aren't at the same level as Honda or Yamaha, but they are good enough for me to show my potential. If someone gave me the chance they'd get 110% every time I got on the bike – and there are some people in MotoGP that probably aren't doing that."
Toseland is currently sixth in the 2005 World Superbike championship, 183-points behind Alstare Suzuki's Troy Corser.
