Hello to everyone,

First I want to excuse myself because I dont know Dutch as I am not a resident here. But I know that most of you people know English more or less so here it goes.

I am the fresh owner of a Yamaha Majesty YP250 from '97 since yesterday and the bike is looking and working good but has some minor flaws.
The front brake is very weak. It seems to me that either the pads or the disk are used or both of them in the same time.
A plastic left cover in the back of the scooter is broken and I need to weld it with hot plastic or something like this. I looked for the new part and I have to pay 25 euros for it, so I will try to glue it first.
The acceleration on the handle gets stuck when I try to accelerate. It doesnt go back immediately. I think it needs a drop of oil in there.
So, having all these small issues, I want to fix it and make it work good. I was thinking to take it to a moto service for a complete check (oil, filters, etc) and also to tell them to repair the issues I mentioned above.
The thing is that I dont have that much money and I know that the mechanics here in Netherlands are really expensive (compared with my financial possibilities).
So, if there are people on this forum that are willing to help me repairing it I am willing to pay them.
George

Welcome,

The brakes: does the handle feels (yes I'm gonna say it) hard? If not, you might just need to let some air out of the system. Otherwise you'd have to check if the brake pads and disc are not thin. If too thin, you would need to replace them. If not, it might help to just sand the brake pads down a little bit. And of course clean and degrease them.

The plastic cover: If you feel you are able to glue it back together nicely, you should. But for € 25,00 I would just replace it. No glue marks and, especially, no paint-mishaps.

The acceleration handle: You can try to fix it with a drop of oil, but I don't think that will do the trick. Either the gascable gets a bit stuck or might be damaged. You can try to get that working smoothly againt with some oil but it might need replacing. Otherwise, there is the spring in the carburettor that needs to pull the acceleration handle back (i.e. the gascable) that might be weak and needs replacing.

I hope I got the technical terms for the parts right, but if not, I think you can understand what I mean. It should all be simple repairs which you might be able to do yourself. If you need parts, there is this Dutch website (also written in English) where you can usually order most of the parts.

EasyParts.nl - Originele Onderdelen MBK Skyliner 250 1997

Good luck,

Karl

Yes, the brake is not hard (lol) at all, but the seller already did that when I bought it and let the oil brake to leak a little but with no success.
The acceleration seems a little complicated and if the cable needs to be replaced I will take it to a specialist to do it.
Yes, I already checked that website, they have my broken part at 25 euroi.
I'm not experienced in repairing and dont have no tools now (not even a screwdriver) but slowly I should be able to fix it complete.
Do you have any suggestion where I could buy some basic tools for a bike like wrenches, screwdrivers, etc
Thanks a lot for the support !

Is there enough brake fluid in the system? There are two ways to let air out of the brake system. The hard way is manual, but a specialist should have a device for it that works faster and better.

If you are not confident enough to try to fix the acceleration handle/cable yourself, than let the specialist have a go at it. It's probably cheaper to have it done right away than first make it worse yourself before letting the specialist fix it ;)

You could bring you scooter without plastic covers. If you remove them yourself you might save on labour.

Instead of bringing it to a motorcycle store, you could also bring it to a scooter/moped store. That's usually a little cheaper on labour costs.

You can buy your tools at a hardware store but you can also buy it at an D.I.Y. store like Gamma i.e. They usually have different qualities of tools in all price ranges.
