Indeed. Our Amsterdam municipal government apparently hasn't actually taken the time to translate this important information to English yet. My apologies on their behalf
So, just to be slightly more complete,
Milieuzone - Gemeente Amsterdam explains that the "milieuzones" (environmental zones) in Amsterdam fall into several categories:
- vrachtauto's (lorries/cargo trucks etc.)
- bestelauto's (delivery vans)
- taxis
- busses (mostly as in public transport)/touring cars
- bromfietsen en snorfietsen (two classes of mopeds)
There is no (well, not yet, but it's probably not far away) zone for cars or motorcycles as of now, as vroembert explained.
For mopeds, the new environmental regulations will be implemented in january 2018 (i.e. a month from now). Note that mopeds in Holland currently (although there are plans for changes) fall into two categories:
- "snor" (as in purr, what a cat does): max 25 km/h, no helmet required and has to behave like a bicycle (most importantly meaning only using bicycle paths/lanes)
- "brom" (comparable to English buzz or vroom): max 45 km/h, helmet required and has special moped rules: use roads in urban areas with max speed 45, unless forced to a bicycle path, use bicycle path in extra-urban areas.
Other categories are less relevant for this discussion and mostly determine access by looking at weight, build year and whether or not they run on Diesel.
Hope this helps
Who knows, someone may find this through Google.
