Introduction
This is my current bike, Honda VTR 1000 SP. It is also known as RC51 or RVT in the USA. It’s a 90 degree, 1000cc, gear driven camshaft, V Twin engine. It makes an absolute glorious and wonderful deep thumping rumbling growling sound. For non bikers, it sounds like a Ducati.
So what had made Honda decide to build this bike?
The 4 cylinder, 750cc engine dominated the World Superbike Racing. So in 1988, the rules changed to allow V Twin engines up to 1000cc, thus allowing Ducati to develop their engine and be competitive.
Honda with the RC30 (V4, 750cc engine) continued to win in 1988 and 1989 (Fred Merkel).
But afterwards, it was a drought for some 10 years as Ducati with its larger displacement engine went on to win 8 World Superbike Championship Titles with its bigger V Twin engine, the 851, 888, 916 and 996. During that time, kawasaki only won in 1993 with the Ninja ZX-7RR (Scott Russell) and Honda only won in 1997 with the RC 45 (John Kocinski, also a V4).
So in 2000, Honda released their own V Twin weapon, the VTR 1000 SP (RC51 in USA). Incredibly, it won the Championship Title in it’s first year (Colin Edwards) of competition. Ducati then won in back 2001 with the 996R (Troy Bayliss) while the VTR SP came in 2nd (Colin Edwards). However, VTR SP won it back again in 2002 (Colin Edwards).
The rules changed in 2003, allowing 1000cc 4 cylinder engines to compete with 1000cc V Twins. Rather than racing one or 2 more seasons with it's proven V Twin formula, while further refining Fireblades engine and setup, Honda immediately retired the VTR 1000 SP, replacing it with the CBR 1000RR Fireblade and did not win a championship title for another 5 years.
This allowed Ducati 999 to win in 2003 and 2004. Suzuki with the GSX-R1000 won in 2005 but Ducati 999 won it back in 2006. The CBR 1000RR Fireblade eventually won in 2007 (James Toseland).
During VTR SP very short history, it had achieved amazing success in both World Superbike and endurance races. In its debut season of 2000, it won the World Superbike Championship, the Le Mans 24 hour gruesome endurance race (Costes/Charpentier/Gimbert), the Suzuka 8 hour endurance race and the infamous Isle of Man TT Formula One (Joey Dunlop).
The 2000 Isle of Man TT race where the great Joey Dunlop MBE/OBE rode the VTR SP winning his 26th and final Isle of Man TT race win was perhaps considered to be the most memorable win as he was 48 years of age and riding against much younger and fitter riders on higher reving in-line 4 engine bikes with 30 to 40 more horsepower. Joey was using the VTR's torque which was available at much lower RPM than the in-line 4 engine bikes. Another great rider John McGuiness (won 13 TT races) also in a VTR SP came in 3rd. Sadly, Dunlop died several months later that same year.
It won the Suzuka 8 hours endurance race for 4 consecutive years proving that it is a super reliable engine. In 2000 (Katoh/Ukawa), in 2001 it scored a quinella by coming in 1st (Edwards/Rossi) and 2nd (Barros/Tamada). In 2002, it went one further with a perfect trifecta by coming in 1st (Edwards/Kato), 2nd (Tamada/Okada) and 3rd (Barros/Tamada). In 2003, it also came in 1st (Nukumi/Kamada).
In 2002, the VTR SP helped launched young Nicky Hayden's career with his first US Superbike Championship. In that same year, Hayden also won the US Daytona 200 endurance race using a VTR SP.
Why go with the crowd when you can own a unique bike that has a short but very successful history. So if you have the opportunity to own and ride one, go for it as Life’s Too Short.

Wat het systeem doet is verse lucht uit de airbox toevoegen aan de uitlaatlucht om zo te voldoen aan milieu eisen.
Het PAIR systeem op de SP bestaat uit een magneetklepje, wat slangwerk en op beide koppen een aansluiting en een pijpje wat naar de uitlaatpoort loopt.
Alles kan er dus af en je moet zorgen dat de hete uitlaatlucht niet naar buiten komt bij de kleppendeksels. (daarvoor zijn dus die ALU plaatjes)
Bij mij zitten de klepjes nog in het kleppendeksel en daar bovenop zit een ALU plaatje als afdichting.
Oh, en zonder die PAIR shit heb je volgensmij minder hete uitlaatlucht en minder backfires.

Tip v/d dag
Draai de blokjes van de kettingspanner om, zodat de as er van rechts in gaat.
Je kunt dan bij de/montage van het wiel de remklauw laten zitten, en het wiel veel makkelijker weer monteren.
Je bent dan dat gepiel met je remklauw kwijt.

Into the first corner and the No11 Seven Stars Honda, and the No.74 Sakurai Honda all went down. There was pandemonium in the gravel for Hayden, Kagayama and Okada and their pit crews couldn’t believe their bad luck.
The Seven Stars Honda No.7 had to come back into the pits after 54 laps. After setting the fastest lap of the race, mechanical problems seemed to be ruling them out of the race. The pit crew worked desperately trying to find out what was wrong with the No.7 Honda V-Twin…and again they worked on the bike in the pit lane instead of inside the box!And that’s not allowed in the rules!
