Ze zijn wel ongewoon, interessant en zeldzaam, maar kolere, wat vind ik ze lelijk. Maar dat valt buiten dit topic.

1947 SMZ M-76 | USSR ☭
In 1942, the State Defence Committee decided to establish the Leading Motorcycle Design Bureau (VKB) in Serpukhov. Its backbone was made up of engineers who came from Izhevsk, headed by the former chief designer of Izhevsk motorbike plant Vsevolod Vyacheslavovich Rogozhin. In 1946 VKB was transformed into the Central Design and Experimental Bureau of Motorcycle Building (CDEB).
One of the directions of work of the Central Design and Experimental Bureau was to improve the designs of machines of Soviet motorbike factories. So, when in 1947 Irbit started to produce a 750cc sport motorbike M-75, Serpukhov took up its fine-tuning.
On the new motorbike with the index M-76 replaced cast-iron cylinders with aluminium ones, put new camshafts and made a lubrication system with dry crankcase. The compression ratio was raised to 9 units, magneto ignition system was used. Engine power increased from 35 to 38 hp, and the version for record races, which showed a speed of 206 km/h, showed even higher characteristics.
In the exhaust system of M-75, M-76, M-75M, M-80 motorbikes instead of mufflers were used megaphones, it was believed that they at speed create rarefaction, which should have contributed to better cleaning of exhaust gases. But there was one disadvantage - such an exhaust, combined with a highly accelerated revving engine, created a truly monstrous noise!

The ill-fated Triumph Bandit and the BSA Fury 350cc DOHC twin were meant to meet the middleweight threat from Japan. The square tank shown here is possibly a design for an export or prototype model, but when all was said and done it was all too little too late!
