Aprilia's Noriyuki Haga has made an instant impression on his return to the World Superbike championship after setting the fastest time in the opening practice session of this weekend's first race meeting at Valencia. Haga set a best time of 1:35.651 to beat Ben Bostrom by 0.22 of a second.
Pier-Francesco Chili was third quickest (1:36.030) as Ducati places six riders in the top ten. Colin Edwards was fourth with a 1:36.049 to edge out the official Ducati duo of Ruben Xaus and Troy Bayliss. James Toseland led the British challenge with eighth position, almost a second adrift of the leading Aprilia of Haga.
